Worked Example: 3-Bed House in Karachi

One 1.5-ton inverter AC for 8 hours (10.4 units), four fans for 12 hours (3.8), twelve LEDs for 6 hours (0.7), fridge (1.5), TV (0.5), 1 HP pump for an hour (0.75), iron and washing machine (1.0). Total ≈ 18.7 units/day. Divide by 4.5 → 4.2kW → round up to a 5kW system, 9-10 × 550W panels, leaving headroom for a second AC in peak June-August heat. That rounding up is deliberate: K-Electric’s summer demand is exactly when panels also derate from heat.

Add each appliance’s watts × hours per day, divide by 1,000 for daily units, then divide by 4.5 for system kW. Our calculator does all three steps instantly.

Whatever covers your daily units most 3-bed Pakistani homes with one AC land at 5kW; two-AC homes typically need 7-10kW. Enter your appliances to get an exact figure.

An inverter model adds roughly 8-11 units per day at 8 hours’ use; a non-inverter unit adds 12-16. That single appliance usually doubles a home’s summer load.

Around 20-25 units a day: one inverter AC, fans, lights, fridge, TV and a water pump. It won’t run two ACs simultaneously through the inverter unless sized for that peak.

Calculate both the tool asks for AC months separately. Sizing on the summer figure with net metering credits covering winter surplus is usually the best-value approach.
