Off-Grid Solar System in Pakistan Independent Power Anywhere

An off-grid solar system runs entirely on solar and battery no grid connection required. Powered by an off-grid inverter and a battery bank sized to your daily usage, it’s the answer for remote homes, farmhouses, tube-wells and any site where a WAPDA connection is unavailable, years away, or too unreliable to matter.

Off-grid is the most demanding system type to design there is no grid to fall back on, so the sizing maths has to be right the first time. Zynergy has engineered off-grid installations across Pakistan since 2021, from coastal farmhouses to interior-Sindh tube-wells.

Who Off-Grid Solar Is Best For

Remote homes and farmhouses, agricultural sites and tube-wells, poultry sheds, fish farms, cattle farms and telecom or security installations anywhere a grid connection is unavailable or the connection cost (poles, transformer, right-of-way) exceeds the price of the solar system itself.

That last case is more common than buyers expect: a new rural connection requiring even a short 11kV extension and transformer can cost more than a complete off-grid setup and still deliver hours of daily load-shedding.

Off-grid also suits goth and village clusters in interior Sindh and Balochistan where feeders exist on paper but voltage is too low to run a motor.

How an Off-Grid Solar System Works

Panels charge a battery bank through the off-grid inverter’s charge controller; the battery then powers your loads day and night.

By day
Run & charge

The inverter runs your appliances directly from solar and pushes surplus into the battery bank.

After sunset
Battery powers everything

With no grid to import from, all loads run from stored energy so the bank must cover evenings and cloudy spells.

Bad weather
Autonomy & genset

Designers size 1-1.5 days of autonomy; many systems add a small generator input as a last-resort charger for week-long overcast runs.

In most of Pakistan, 1-1.5 days of autonomy covers monsoon cloud bursts in Sindh; central Punjab sites need more margin for December-January smog, when daily output can fall 20-30%.

Off-Grid Solar Pros & Cons

The upside
  • Complete independence no bills, no load-shedding, no DISCO paperwork, no waiting for a connection.
  • Reliable for remote sites proven for tube-wells, farms and homes far beyond the last pole.
  • Beats a costly new connection often cheaper than poles, conductor and a transformer share for a far-off feeder.
The trade-offs
  • Higher cost the battery bank is the largest expense, typically 30-45% of the budget.
  • Needs careful sizing undersize and the system browns out in winter; oversize and you’ve paid for capacity you never use. This is an engineering job, not a price-list purchase.

Off-Grid System Components

Component quality is even less forgiving off-grid than on-grid a B-grade panel underperforming 15% doesn’t just trim savings, it flattens your battery by 9pm.

Tier-1 Solar Panels

Documented A-grade modules with verifiable serials never repackaged or refurbished stock.

Off-Grid / Hybrid Inverter

With a built-in MPPT charge controller and surge capacity for motor start-up the spec that matters most off-grid.

Battery Bank

Lithium (LiFePO4) for 80-90% usable capacity and thousands of cycles, or tubular for tight budgets at maintained sites.

Galvanised Structure

Hot-dip frames engineered for open-field wind loads, not painted angle iron.

DC/AC Protections

Full surge, breaker and earthing protection critical with no grid to absorb faults.

Generator Input (optional)

A last-resort charger port for week-long bad-weather runs, without oversizing the battery.

Sizing an Off-Grid System for Autonomy

Correct battery sizing is critical get it wrong and no amount of panels will save the design. It starts with an honest load audit.

Load audit

Start From Real Consumption

A typical small farmhouse 8 LED lights, 3 fans, an inverter fridge, a water pump and a TV/router draws about 8 units a day. At ~4-5 units/day per kW that needs a ~2.5-3kW array, plus 25-30% winter margin.

Storage

Days of Autonomy

For one full day of autonomy that farmhouse needs ~10 kWh of usable battery. Punjab sites add margin for smog season; run your own numbers with the battery sizing calculator before comparing quotes.

Off-Grid Inverter Sizes

Sized to your loads and surge demand surge capacity matters more off-grid than anywhere else, because a cheap inverter trips with no grid to catch a motor start.

3KW
Small home lights, fans, fridge, TV.
5KW
Farmhouse with one inverter AC for summer nights.
10KW
Three-phase motor loads and larger sites.
VFD
Direct solar pumping for tube-wells, no battery.

A water pump or 1.5-ton AC compressor draws 2-3× its running wattage at start-up match the inverter’s surge rating to your motor loads. See the inverters page.

Off-Grid Inverter Price in Pakistan

Off-grid pricing depends on capacity, surge rating and battery-voltage class and the battery bank is the largest single line item, typically 30-45% of the budget. Equipment is USD-linked, so quotes carry short validity.

Surge capacity is the specification that matters most off-grid a cheap inverter that can’t surge simply trips with no grid to catch the load. Confirm live rates on the price page.

Do You Really Need Off-Grid? Off-Grid vs Hybrid

No grid at all
True Off-Grid

Choose it only when there is no connection, the connection cost is prohibitive, or supply is too poor to even recharge batteries overnight.

  • Complete independence, no DISCO
  • Proven for remote farms & tube-wells
  • Needs more panels + storage for smog season
A grid wire reaches you
Hybrid (usually better value)

If any grid wire reaches your property however unreliable a hybrid is usually better value: the grid is your bad-weather backup, so you buy a smaller battery.

  • Smaller, cheaper battery bank
  • Grid as free bad-weather backup
  • Net-metering savings on top

Off-Grid Solar Power Systems for Farms & Tube-Wells

Off-grid systems have quietly transformed Pakistani agriculture: a diesel tube-well burning fuel daily can be replaced by a solar array driving the pump directly through daylight, with batteries optional if you only pump when the sun shines.

Typical configurations pair a 10-20kW array with a VFD or solar pump controller, eliminating diesel costs that often exceed the system’s payback in fuel alone. Poultry sheds and dairy farms that can’t tolerate outages use battery-backed designs instead see agricultural solar for pump sizing.

Worked Example: Off-Grid Farmhouse in Interior Sindh

A family farmhouse 14 km from the nearest functioning feeder needed lights, fans, a fridge, a water pump and one 1.5-ton inverter AC for summer nights. The DISCO connection estimate poles, conductor and a transformer share exceeded the cost of a complete solar system. Zynergy installed a 6 kW array with a 5 kW off-grid inverter and 15 kWh of lithium: daytime loads and pumping run straight off the panels, evenings run on battery, and the AC runs through summer nights with capacity to spare. A generator input covers rare week-long overcast spells.

Off-Grid Solar FAQs

Yes they store daytime power for nights and cloudy days. The only exception is direct solar pumping, where a tube-well runs straight off the array during daylight with no storage.

Yes, mainly due to the battery bank, which typically takes 30-45% of the budget. The comparison flips when the alternative is a costly new grid connection or daily diesel.

Yes either battery-backed or direct solar pumping through a pump controller. See agricultural solar solutions for sizing by pump horsepower.

A small home setup (lights, fans, fridge) and a farmhouse system with AC capability sit in different brackets. Battery chemistry and autonomy days move the figure most.

Yes, with an inverter rated for the compressor’s start-up surge and enough battery for night running budget roughly 1.2-1.8 kW of continuous draw. Inverter ACs are strongly preferred.

Output can drop 20-30% in December-January, which proper sizing absorbs through winter margin and autonomy days. Many systems add a generator input as a last-resort charger.

Lithium for daily deep cycling and unmanned sites: more usable capacity, longer life, no watering. Tubular suits tight budgets at sites someone maintains weekly.

Often yes most modern off-grid inverters are hybrid-capable, so if the grid eventually reaches you, it connects as a charging source and net metering can follow.
