How a Solar Tube-Well Works

Panels feed a pump controller/VFD that drives your pump directly during daylight no fuel, no grid. The VFD converts DC into variable-frequency AC, ramping the motor up softly as the sun rises and down as it sets, which extends motor life compared with the hard starts of a diesel or direct-on-line setup.

On clear days the pump runs from roughly two hours after sunrise to two hours before sunset at usable flow. Add batteries only if you genuinely need night pumping most farmers skip them, pump into a storage pond or overhead tank, and keep the system cost low. Hybrid configurations can fall back to grid or genset on cloudy days through the same controller.
